Biography
Máximo Rodríguez was born in Caballito (Federal Capital) on August 9, 1960. His first approach to music came at age 7 when his parents bought him a Spanish guitar for childs in Antigua Casa Núñez.
In 1977 he went to study with Walter Malossetti, in his old redoubt of the street Virrey Ceballos. There he began to understand a little more scales, chords, eighth notes and many more.
At that time, together with some friends of the school they decided to put together a group and three guitarists were too much, so it was that he started playing the electric bass.
Then he studied with Carlos Madariaga (’81, ’82) basically improvisation, harmonic analysis, scales etc. His teacher was the first to recommend it for professional work.
At that time he started teaching private bass lessons (October ’81) and I also had his first experiences as a professional musician. At the end of ’83, he had the opportunity to integrate a citizen music sextet, “Paredón”, where he began as a composer and instrumental music arranger, writing arrangements for bandoneon, flute, guitar, piano, bass and drums.
He studied at the Avellaneda School of Popular Music (EMPA) and had Fernando Galimany as a bass guitar teacher for four years. There he spent the four years ('87 -90) that lasted the upper cycle, learning a lot and knowing colleagues with whom he shared assemblies, orchestra and artistic projects more than interesting, many of which today are professionals of great level.
At the same time in those years he joined the quartet of the vibraphonist Héctor Sánchez, Quinteto “El Quartetazo” (Messina, Solla, Skorupski, Kitay and Rodríguez), “Trama” (Ceccoli, Hunt, Rodríguez) and “Gravissimo” in duet with Fernando Galimany.
Then he joined EMPA as a teacher, a position he continues to hold until today. He also taught at SADEM.
In '93 and until his death in '99 he was part of the groups of Rodolfo Alchourrón (“Talisman” and “Tango a Destiempo”), with whom he recorded two albums, played many times, was his student and above all things a very good friend, from whom I learned not only of musical techniques, but also, something that not many teachers teach, of musical aesthetics, good taste and love for artistic products.
In 1997 he built his first solo project with Marcelo Kitay (guitar), Natalio Sued (saxos) and Daniel Miguez (drums). At first the repertoire was formed by some Jazz standard, some Folklore and some of its compositions. With the passage of time, and the incorporation of Fernando "Penaco" Zaldívar (piano) the group's repertoire was nourished with compositions of the other members.
At the beginning of 2000, the first CD of the quintet “Quien dijo que 20 años no es nada” came out. In this album his son Guido sings (9 years at the time) who puts the voice on two tracks.
In 1999, the popular music career opens at the Leopoldo Marechal Art School in La Matanza. Enter as a teacher of Bajo Foba and a few years later also in the career of Bajo Tango. In 2000, this career moved to its current headquarters in Ramos Mejía. Also in 1999/2000, he participated in the Morón Conservatory of popular music workshops teaching electric bass classes.
In those years they armed with the saxophonist and clarinetist Néstor Tomassini a Latin Jazz quintet, along with Osvaldo Belmonte (piano), Javier Chernicoff (drums) and Gustavo Martelli (percussion). They played music by Paquito D'Rivera, Cachao, Michael Camilo, Mongo Santamaría and others.
He was part of the group in Buenos Aires of Daniel Messina (Argentine drummer based in Germany many years ago) with Kitay and Skorupski, companions in the late '80s of the group "El Quartetazo".
In 2004 the second CD of his quintet “Miradas de Buenos Aires” came out with compositions made by himself. The disc was recorded by: Abel Rogantini (piano), Marcelo Kitay (guitar), Mario Cerra (saxos) and Daniel Miguez (drums). As a guest musician was Abdoulaye Badiane (djembe).
In all these years he worked as a professional musician in: musical comedies (Drácula, El Jorobado de Paris, Mamá es una estrella, Romerías, Gipsy and those mentioned above), singers (Claudia Mores, Marianella, Laura Albarracín, Ludmila Fernández, María Estela Monti etc.), recording of the work of Mónica Cosachov (Camerata Bariloche) “El universo de sonido” and recordings with various artists.
In 2006 I formed with the guitarist Analía Rego the “Diez cuerdas Duo” presenting repertoire based on Tango and Brazilian Music (choros and bossa).
In 2007 together with Fernando Lerman (saxs), Alejandro Manzoni (piano) and Leandro Savelón (drums) form the group “El Cuatriyo” (we compose the four members), with which they have three recorded albums: “El Cuatriyo” (2008- Double CD) and "Texturas del verde" (2011) recorded with different orchestral formations (sax quartet, string orchestra and Jazz big band). This album was presented live in 2011 with the National Orchestra of Popular Music "Juan de Dios Filiberto". In 2012 Abel Rogantini (piano) replaces Alejandro Manzoni. With Abel as a new member they record the third CD "Unitarios y Federales". With this group they have made several tours to the interior of the country: Bariloche, El Bolsón, Neuquén, Gral. Roca, Santa Fe, Lujan, San Andrés de Giles, La Falda, Mercedes, Mar del Plata, Tandil and Bahía Blanca.
In 2009, the third solo album “El tiempo de nosotros lado”, now in sextet formation, is released, along with: Abel Rogantini (keyboards), Marcelo Kitay (guitar), Víctor Skorupski (saxos), Leandro Savelón (percussion) and Daniel Miguez (drums). Also participating as guests were: Laura Albarracín (voice), Fernando Lerman (sax and flute), Daniel Kovacich (clarinets), Daniel Messina (drums), Leandro Kalen, his eldest son, (piano and vocals), Alejandro Manzoni (piano) and Claudi Rossi (trumpet).

It also integrates the Fabián Keoroglanian Trío, with the leader in vibraphone and Fernando Valles (drums) with whom they recorded the album "Claroscuro".
In order to continue studying he took improvisation classes with saxophonist Daniel Kovacich and pianist Guillermo Romero.
Since 2000 he works with Yamaha doing pedagogical advice courses, talks for representatives of the brand in Latin America, clinics and concerts.
In addition to the mentioned musicians who played in their solo albums, saxophonists also participated in their groups: Daniel Kovacich, Gustavo Cámara, Ricardo Cavalli, Gustavo Musso, pianists Pablo Saclis and Guido Pasarello and drummer Leandro Savelón.
