He obtained his degree at the Instituto Tecnológico de Música Contemporánea (ITMC) in the year 1993, majoring in Guitar, Arrangements and Composition, where he studied with guitar players such as Luis Salinas, Carlos Campos, Beto Calletti, and Harmony with Marcelo Braga and Juan ''Pollo'' Raffo.
In the year 1995, he began studying and perfecting his jazz guitar and performance knowledge with guitarist Pino Marrone, and composition with professor Laura Baade.
He is currently studying composition with professor Federico Wiman.
Since 2005, he has played in a duo together with upright bass player Gabriel Domenicucci with whom he participated in the First Jazz Festival of Villa Gesell in 2005.
He later received a special mention at the Jazz Improvisation Competition organized by Metrovias, and participated in the 6th Jazz Festival Metrovias in 2006.
In 2006, the duo recorded their first album, Ni una Nube, which was released in 2007 by PAI Records.
That same year, the album was chosen by the prestigious Club del Disco, and also won the Bares Notables Competition, organized by the City Government.
He is currently the lead guitarist of Catalina Vin band, with drummer Leo Álvarez and bass player Gabriel Domenicucci. The band recorded two albums produced by Juan Stewart: Genuine (2009) and Hypersensitive (2013).
He is a member of the Electric Guitar Orchestra Ruido Negro, a project by guitarist and composer Sergio Álvarez.
He is also part of ''Proyecto Mínimo'', a band created by Gabriel Domenicucci and whose members are some of the most relevant jazz musicians in Buenos Aires (Sergio Wagner, Andrés Elstein, Leo Alvarez, Jesús Fernandez). In 2012, the band released their first album, ''Proyecto Mínimo'', which was chosen as Record of the Month in May 2012 by the Club del Disco.
In 2013, he auditioned and was accepted as the new lead guitarist of Genesis-tribute band Genetics. The band tours regularly in Argentina and abroad, including concerts at the Teatro Coliseo of Buenos Aires, and the Caupolicán stadium in Chile. The band is acclaimed by critics and Genesis fans alike.
He is also composer in his own quartet, performing in the most important jazz venues of Buenos Aires. The quartet is completed by Martin Lambert, Leo Paganini and Diego Goldszein.
Apart from playing live, Leo is deeply involved in education. As a guitar teacher, he was a member of the staff of Coral music school between 1997 and 2007.
He has been teaching privately for 15 years, inspiring dozens of now professional musicians and amateurs alike.
