This represents a reflexive approach to the history and present of Jazz in Argentina, through interviews held with musicians of different walks of life, generations and styles. Rock Pioneers from the Argentine province of Tucumán, this band were part of the 1971 B.A. Rock festival. Their songs exuded the spirit of the 70's, in which Psychedelic Hard Rock, Progressive Rock, and Folk Rock represented a faithful reflection of the band’s style, which had certain similarities to Almendra or Coven, and marked a strong influence on the group’s successor, Redd. This double album contains on its first CD, studio recordings made in 2004. The second CD shows us how the group sounded live. “En el país de la libertad” (In the country of freedom), encompasses the first 16 years of León Gieco in Buenos Aires, since his arrival from Cañada Rosquín, until the release of his iconic “De Ushuaia a La Quiaca” album, including all the records he released through Argentine music label, “Music Hall” during this period. With Folk and Rock influences, right from the start he started writing songs which highlighted the essential values of life, such as using freedom as a flag, struggle and vindication of the people, by becoming inspired by people and characters hailing from the many provinces of Argentina.

Les Minot is a project led by Federico Ruhl, bass guitarist and composer with this Fusion Jazz band. They have very cleverly and successfully injected elements of Traditional Argentine Folk into their music, in order to create different shades, tinges, nuances, overtones, and variations of pleasant climaxes and delicate melodies.

By deepening the Folk roots within this typically-Argentine Fusion style, the second album by this bunch presents an ample, as well as abstract Jazz imprint, featuring an Incidental, almost cinematographic sound. A work of light, nice and melodic profile, combined with utter tastefulness.

One of the most expressive facets of the Argentine seminal and mythical group from the seventies, MIA, was their vocal and chorus arrangements. This new recording re-unites Liliana Vitale and Veronica Condomi, as they combine their voices together again on several improvisational passages, as well as performing songs of an Argentine Folk inclination. On most of the album's tracks, they sing acapella, without any instrumental accompaniment whatsoever.

This is a CD in which Liliana and Verónica continue experimenting with their unique use of counterpoints, medieval-kind-of-two-voiced polyphonic singing, and improvisations. This album was entirely recorded in the studio, an environment which allowed them to play around with multi-layered vocal and instrumental recordings, as well as to simply sing songs they love.

Yet another branch-off from the new formation of Tarkus, albeit with a totally different musicalapproach: Emotional Progressive Rock, sprinkled with L.A. Spinetta overtones, and touches of faddy rhythms in the direction of such modern trendsetters as Juan Ravioli and Andres Ruiz. Beautiful work !!!

This is the ninth album by the Peruvian band hailing from the capital city of Lima, and released in 2003. Their music evolved from a collage of multiple sounds (using home-made recordings) to a form of Live Improvisation outfit, where Psychedelia, Noise Rock, Industrial Sonics, and Drone converge into one fine heck of a concoction!

Immediately prior to his exile in Mexico, Litto Nebbia recorded an album of very intimate and atmospheric songs together with his lyricist Mirtha Defilpo. "Toda canción será plegaria" consisted of a bare minimum amount of piano and synthesizer instrumentation. Upon his arrival on Mexican soil, he produced "The Naked World", which heralded his initiation into Latin Fusion musical territory, and entirely sung in English!

Within the framework of celebrating 50 years since the "official" beginning of Argentine Rock, Hilda Lizarazu, the ex-singer of Man Ray, proposes the challenge of making new versions that refer to the birth of our Rock. These songs, which were originally released between 1968 and 1973, receive the treatment of being respected along their own styles, with the complicity of Lito Vitale, Eduardo Tapia, Juan Belvis, and Luciano Vitale, among others.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Jorge López Ruíz is one of the founding fathers and giants of the Argentine Jazz scene. His second album introduces us to Contemporary Jazz, emulating references of such elevated musical stature as Miles Davies, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane. With a style inspired by Post-Bop and Cool, he innovated in Argentine latitudes by incorporating his own imprint of local tints.

Originally released way back in 1961, this was the debut album by Jorge López Ruiz (a true pioneer in the Contemporary Argentine Jazz movement) and consisted of a blend of standards and original material where Be-Bop and Cool Jazz influences clearly stood out, though at the same time, Jorge’s music contained a certain condiment of stylistic spicing via which a distinctive Latin flavour predominated throughout these recordings.

At the dawning of the seventies was when this band started performing live in concert. The outfit featured some very rare particularities: twin lead guitars, permanent presence of a violin throughout all of their songs, almost handled as a lead instrument; and excellent vocal arrangements. They mixed Psychedelia, Prog Rock, and Classical Music very successfully, and were finally able to boast this unusual yet inspired concoction on this, their only album, which was recorded during the latter stages of 1972. The record didn't actually see the light of day until 1974. This CD has been remastered from the original master tapes.
