Biography

Nicotina es Primavera is the musical project lead by Peruvian flutist Camilo Angeles, a young musician who has established himself in Buenos Aires, where he has studied at the Conservatorio Manuel de Falla. It is there where Camilo contacted different young musicians who shared his same interests and who would become accomplices in several musical adventures, always guided by the fusion of Jazz, Contemporary Music and Avant-Garde Rock. Amongst these adventures one can highlight the group Sales de Baño (lead by Carlos Quebrada, whom we have already been able to see live in Lima), and Nicotina es Primavera which debuts record wise with the album “Animal Cerámico” via Buh Records.

It so just happens Camilo has become a key figure to create links between the Experimental Rock scenes in Argentina (very well documented in his double album “Salgan al Sol”- Buh Records, 2015) and Peru.

And now Nicotina es Primavera, septet formed in Buenos Aires by Juan Olivera (trumpet), Violeta García (cello), Camilo Ángeles (flute and composition), Pía Hernández (piano), Carlos Quebrada (bass), Nicolás del Águila (drums) and Fermín Merlo (vibraphone), finally arrives in Lima.

Nicotina es Primavera began playing in 2013 and since then they have become a revelation in the Buenos Aires scene thanks to their blend of Jazz, Experimental Rock and Contemporary Music which connects them with the tradition of so called Rock In Opposition (RIO). Their non classifiable music stands out because of its compositional solidness, melody and dissonance coexisting and alternating while building musical landscapes of great complexity, where Jazz and minimalist composition find a common path.

In April 2018 his second album "Perder planetas" was released, again with the same line-up and under the same Peruvian label, Buh Records.
