Biography
Rodolfo Alchourron has developed an extensive activity in popular music in recent decades. His performance as a composer, arranger, conductor and guitarist has been profusely virtually all areas: concerts, discs, television, cinema, theater, etc. providing deserved renown.
Between institutions and artists who have had their collaboration to include Agrupación Nueva Música, Instituto Di Tella, Juventudes Musicales, Teatro Gral. San Martín, New York State Council on the Arts, Meet the Composer, Astor Piazzolla, Gato Barbieri, Litto Nebbia, Enrique "Mono" Villegas, Rodolfo Mederos, Piero, Eduardo Rovira, Dino Saluzzi, Clare Fisher, Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Amelita Baltar, Michel Legrand, Alberto Cortes, Paul Anka and Domingo Cura among many others.
He have studied with distinguished teachers as Ginastera, Baptist, Sinopoli, Ficher and Kröpfl, and have obtained some of his works "classical" composition awards attention Alchourron made a turn to popular music. Attracted by the Jazz since his teens, he was devoted to the genre and made numerous works within him as author, arranger and performer, always standing at the front line of renewal and search. During the sixties he created and led groups of diverse backgrounds, from the trio to the big band of seventeen members, and since that time occupied a prominent position within the Argentine scene.
Between 1970 & 1974 his group “Sanata Y Clarificación” was established in the most important among evolutionists groups seeking integration of Jazz and Rock local expression.
As a result of frequent incursions into tango and Folk music roots, and combined with a growing interest in popular song as an art form quality, replacing his group Alchourron less Jazz wind instruments for bandoneon and forming a repertoire of songs strongly impregnated elements typical of Argentina Music.
Based in New York between 1978 & 1989, he acted regularly for eight years at the helm of a group "Southern Exposure" for which he composed numerous songs and instrumental pieces, all of them combining elements of Jazz with South American Folk rhythms.
Special offer for Astor Piazzolla, Alchourron reworked and directed in 1988 & 1989 score by one for "Dangerous Games", theater-dance that was presented successfully in New York, San Francisco and other places of USA.
Returned to Buenos Aires in 1990, presented his own compositions through two unique projects: the orchestra “Mientras Dure”, unconventional grouping twelve members, and “Ventana al Espacio”, combination of traditional instruments and electronic media, six performers, by special order Impsat satellite communications company.
Complementing his artistic activity, Rodolfo regularly taught courses in harmony and composition from 1969 to the present, have gone through their outstanding musicians of our middle class as Bernardo Baraj, Adalberto Cevasco, Daniel Binelli, Haydee Gerardi, Saul Cosentino, Litto Nebbia, Ricardo Lew Norberto Minichillo and many others. He is currently professor of materials "Instrumental arrangements and vocals" and "Group Practice Tango I & II" at the School of Popular de Avellaneda Music and "Melodic creation - Improvisation" and "Harmony I & II" at the Institute of Authoring formation of SADAIC.
He is the author of "Composition and arrangements of popular music" didactic text published by Ricordi Americana. His second book, "Ad Libitum - Elements of improvisation" is about to be published by the same publisher.
Between 1993 & 1995 had activities with his group "Talismán", with whom he recorded several compositions.
Since April 1996 he took over another original Argentine contemporary music sextet with whom he edited “Tango a destiempo” in 1998.
After that and because of a long illness, Rodolfo died a year later.

He wrote the books "Composición y Arreglos de Música Popular" and "Ad Libitum - Elementos de Improvisación", both published by the publisher Ricordi Americana. His third book, "Tema y arreglo", has not yet been published.
Besides the nine albums with his music are edited, the creative contribution of Alchourron as arranger and guitarist has been in legendary recordings like “Laura va” (Almendra), “Tango en la Universidad” (E. Rovira), “Lunes de la humanidad” (L. Nebbia), “Chiquilín de Bachín” (A. Baltar), “Hoy seremos campesinos” (M. Abuelo), “Tango Apasionado” (A. Piazzolla), etc.
